The manuscript was written by Fray Gregorio de Zuola (1640 ca. Spain - 1709 Cuzco, Peru). The lyrics speak about cities from the reign of Felipe the IV and of popular dances and romances from Spain. The manuscript is now housed in the Casa Museo Ricardo Rojas in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

lyrics

ESP:
Entre dos álamos verdes,
que forman juntos un arco,
por no despertar las aves
pasaba callando el Tajo.

Juntar los troncos querían
los enamorados brazos,
pero el envidioso río
no deja llegar los ramos.

ENG:
Between two green poplars,
that together form an arch,
so as not to wake the birds
the Tajo passed quietly.

To join the trunks together,
the enamored arms,
but the envious river
does not let the branches arrive.
